Medical microneedling with SkinPen® is extremely safe, and most patients can benefit from a course of this treatment. However, before any procedure can be recommended at Awaken Clinic, we will ask that you attend a no-obligation consultation so we can discuss your skin concerns, assess your complexion and carry out a simple medical questionnaire. This will ensure that you are suitable for the treatment.
Before your SkinPen® treatment, your skin will be cleansed, and a topical anaesthetic may be applied for your comfort. The anaesthetic cream takes around 30 minutes to take effect. After this, the SkinPen® will be applied in a gliding motion, creating hundreds of tiny puncture wounds at a controlled level. When the treatment is completed, you can return to your daily activities. It is advised, however, that you adhere to any aftercare advice that you are given, such as avoiding hot steam therapies for 24 hours after your treatment.
Following your SkinPen® treatment, you may experience slight erythema (redness) and potentially some blood spotting where the fine needles have punctured the skin. These side effects are not a cause for concern and usually only last for around 24 hours. We will advise you on how to manage these side effects and the products to use on your skin during and after your treatment.
This all depends on your skin concern, quality, and how you respond to each treatment session. However, we generally recommend between three and six SkinPen® treatments spaced four weeks apart. We will estimate the number of treatments you may require in your initial consultation at the clinic.
You should start seeing some initial results around four weeks from your first treatment. Further improvements can be seen with each treatment and in the weeks and months that follow your course.
This depends on several factors, such as your skin quality and age, lifestyle choices, and environment. Generally, we recommend having maintenance sessions every six to twelve months to keep your skin looking and feeling its very best.
