Mesotherapy – Dr Steph
As we age, we may notice that our usual skin routine isn’t producing the desired results. Certain skin conditions may also benefit from more intensive treatments than topical creams or medications. Mesotherapy is a clinically proven cosmetic treatment that involves injecting a cocktail of substances into the skin, either using a fine needle or a special mesotherapy device. This treatment works within the deeper layers of the skin to significantly improve the skin’s tone, texture, and laxity.
At Awaken Clinic in St Neots, Cambridgeshire, we offer mesotherapy for many skin concerns, from the first and more significant signs of ageing to common skin conditions such as acne, acne scarring, sun damage and rosacea.
Mesotherapy is also known as ‘bio-rejuvenation’ or ‘bio-revitalisation’ as the ingredients that are injected into the skin, such as vitamins, plant extracts, stem cells, and hyaluronic acid, are extremely compatible with the human body. The ingredients work with the skin’s cells to increase collagen and elastin production, repair tissue damage, and restore hydration. We can deliver ingredients into the superficial layers of the skin using the Target Cool device as a no-needle alternative to mesotherapy. This helps substances to penetrate the epithelial dermal junction. It is more superficial but extremely effective for rejuvenating the skin.

FAQs
A range of common skin complaints can be treated safely and effectively with mesotherapy. These include:
- Fine lines and wrinkles.
- Uneven skin tone or texture.
- Loss of elasticity and skin sagging.
- Thinning skin.
- Sun damage (hyperpigmentation).
- Acne and acne scarring.
- Stretch marks.
- Cellulite.
- Dark under-eye circles and eye bags.
- Hair loss (alopecia).
- Chronic skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.
Mesotherapy can be a highly effective, non-surgical treatment for various skin concerns. However, some patients may present contraindications that can prevent or restrict a specific treatment from going ahead. To ensure that a mesotherapy treatment will be both safe and suitable for you to undergo, we will ask that you attend an initial consultation and skin analysis, as well as a medical history check so that we can be sure that mesotherapy will be a suitable option for you.
A numbing cream may be applied around 30 minutes prior to your mesotherapy treatment. Once the cream has taken effect, it will be removed, and a special mesotherapy device will be used to inject small amounts of the chosen substance into your skin. Once this is completed, an SPF or recovery serum may be applied to your skin. You can then return to your daily routine with the exception of certain activities which may affect the skin’s recovery. These activities will be outlined during your initial consultation at the clinic.
In the past, mesotherapy has been known to be slightly uncomfortable due to the use of hand-held needles and human judgment, as the depth of injection is not always accurate when this method is used. However, we use a special mesotherapy device with extremely fine needles at Awaken Clinic. The device ensures a precise depth of injection and far less discomfort. A topical anaesthetic is also applied before the treatment to maximise your comfort throughout the procedure.
There is no clinical downtime ( a recovery period at home) after this treatment. However, you may experience some skin sensitivity and redness for up to 24 hours afterwards. We will offer you some aftercare advice to minimise any risk of bruising or infection and recommend that you avoid using heavy makeup for around 24 hours. We can recommend a specific mineral makeup designed for post-treatment use if you require it.
Some patients can see some results after just one treatment session. However, in most cases, a course of several treatments will be required to achieve the optimum outcomes. We will advise you on the estimated number of treatments that may be required in your initial consultation at the clinic.
This all depends on the type of skin concern we are treating. In cases of acne scarring, trauma scars and certain types of pigmentation, the results can be permanent. However, for concerns such as lines, wrinkles, rosacea, and skin sagging, the results can last for up to six months, after which you may need a top-up treatment every six to 12 months to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.
